The Soviet Tupolev Design Bureau was founded in 1922 by aerospace pioneer and engineer Andrei Tupolev who led the company for 50 years until his death in 1972.
Tupolev was a prolific manufacturer, creating ranges of iconic and ground-breaking aircraft that served the Soviet state during the 20th Century.
During World War 2 and the Cold War, Tupolev aircraft such as the Tu-2, the Tu-16 served as front line bombers while the ANT-25 long range experimental aircraft trialled as a bomber, was used by the Soviet Union for a number of record-breaking flights in the 1930s.
To this day Tupolev aircraft designed and built in the Soviet Era are found in active duty for the Russian Air Force, a statement of their enduring build and utility in the air.
