Mikhail Gurevich (1893-1976) is best known as cofounder of the Mikoyan-Gurevich military aviation bureau along with Artem Mikoyan.
Aircraft built by the bureau, prefixed by the letters MiG - would become synonymous with Soviet military aviation with fighters from the MiG-1 in 1940 through to the cutting edge MiG-25 which was the last aircraft that Gurevich personally worked on prior to his retirement.
From World War 2 to date over 45,000 MiG aircraft have been manufactured of which 11,000 were exported to other countries outside the Soviet Union.
